Art Journal Flip Through

MIxed media collage of leopard, people dancing and a tiger-striped airplane flying overhead.

Summer 2022 Edition

If you’ve been following my summer art journal journey, you might remember I started this one on the Summer Solstice.

Now, I’ve completed it just in time to start a new one tomorrow - on the Autumnal Equinox.

I didn’t start out to create a seasonal art journal; it just sort of worked out that way. But now I’m excited to try to intentionally create one for the fall.

Anyhoo, I recorded a video flip through of my summer art journal. I’ve been posting pages on social media as I go, but I thought it would be fun to see the whole thing at once.

It really tells the story of a season in my life.

Resources

Here are links to the art journal and workshops I referenced in the video:

  • Viviva Colors Sketchbook
This is the sketchbook I used all summer and I have a new one ready for fall. I have to admit I wasn’t crazy about the paper in this one at first. It absorbs watercolor too quickly, making it difficult to get nice smooth washes. However, once I started mixing collage with watercolor and acrylic paint pens, I fell in love with it. The pages are nice and sturdy and I like the size and shape a lot.

  • Woman Unleashed Retreat
Hosted by Amber Kuileimailani Bonnici twice a year on the summer and winter solstice, this is the free retreat I mentioned in the video. It is usually a mixed bag of creative and energy healing workshops.

  • Make, Create, Express Free Weekend Retreat
This was the other art workshop series I mentioned in the video, but couldn’t remember the name of it. The paid, year-long workshop is still available at this link. I had taken a few classes during the free taster weekend back in June or July.
